# Build an app with Notion

> Create apps that read and update Notion pages or databases, or turn your Notion workspace into custom portals, directories, and dashboards.

## How it works

Turn your Notion databases and pages into fully functional Zite apps that your team, clients, or users can access without working directly in Notion.

Once connected, Zite can read and write the Notion pages you select. By connecting Zite to Notion, you can:

* Create secure portals and internal tools powered by Notion data
* Add, edit, and update Notion pages directly from your Zite app
* Display your Notion data using custom views like directories, dashboards, and task boards
* Add search, filtering, and sorting so users can quickly find the information they need
* Create new Notion content from app actions and workflows

## How to sync data

    In the chat box, request your app to be integrated with Notion or click the `plug icon` <Icon icon="plug" />.

    Select `Notion` under **Database**, then click `Connect`.

  <Step title="Review the connection steps">
    Zite will show the connection flow before sending you to Notion. Click `Connect to Notion`.

  <Step title="Grant access in Notion">
    Sign in to Notion if prompted, then review the permissions and click `Select pages`.

      Notion may show `Fillout` on the authorization screen. Fillout is Zite's parent company.

  <Step title="Select pages">
    Choose the Notion pages or databases that Zite should access, then click `Allow access`.

    Only the pages you select will be available to your Zite app.

  <Step title="Enter use case">
    Tell Zite how you want to use Notion in your app. For example, ask Zite to build a client portal, project tracker, or content dashboard connected to your selected Notion database.

  <Step title="Deploy and share">
    Test the app by creating, editing, or loading a record that uses your connected Notion pages. Then, check Notion to confirm the page or database was updated as expected.

    Click `Publish` in the upper right corner and [**share**](/help/platform/access/share-to-web) your app.

    [Modify the theme](/help/platform/how-to-build/design) or [style specific elements](/help/platform/basics/selective-edits) in your app to personalize it or match it with your brand.
