# App branding and link previews

> Set the title, description, favicon, and image shown in the browser tab, by search engines, and when people share your app.

Branding controls how your app looks in the browser tab and when someone shares the link. You need permission to edit the app to change these settings. In the app editor, open **Settings**, then select **Branding**.

Title, description, favicon, and thumbnail are available on every plan. Zite branding is removed automatically on paid Zite plans.

To reuse colors, fonts, and a logo across apps, see [Create a brand kit](https://zite.com/help/platform/how-to-build/brand-kit.md).

## What branding controls

* **Title:** Shown in the browser tab and as the title when the app link is shared. The default is your app name followed by Zite, like **My app | Zite**.
* **Description:** The text under the title when the link is shared. Search engines also use this text. The default is a generic Zite description.
* **Favicon:** The small icon in the browser tab. It is also the icon when someone saves the app to a phone home screen, unless a separate mobile icon is set. Upload or remove it, and check the preview. The default is the Zite icon.
* **Thumbnail:** The image shown when the app link is shared. For public apps, the default may show a screenshot of the app.

These defaults apply only when the app has not already set its own title, description, or icon.

**Title** and **Description** sit under **Metadata**. **Favicon** and **Thumbnail** sit under **Brand assets**.

## How to set branding

**1. Open Branding**

In the app editor, click `Settings` , then select `Branding`.

**2. Set the title and description**

Under **Metadata**, enter a **Title** and **Description**. Keep the title short so it fits in a browser tab. Write a description that explains what the app does.

**3. Upload brand assets**

Under **Brand assets**, upload a **Favicon** and a **Thumbnail**, or remove an existing one. Check the preview before you continue.

**4. Save and publish**

Click `Save`, then click `Publish` in the upper right corner. Changes only go live after you publish. You cannot publish while branding changes are unsaved.

You can also ask Zite to change the title, description, favicon, or thumbnail. To use an image from your computer, upload it in **Settings**, then save and publish your changes.

## Image size tips

The **Thumbnail** looks best at **1200 x 630** pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio). That size fills the preview when someone shares your app link.

## FAQs

> **Why don't my branding changes show?**
>
> Branding changes go live only after you click `Save` and then `Publish`. Open the published app to check the browser tab title and favicon. Check a shared-link preview for the description and thumbnail.

> **Why can't I publish?**
>
> You cannot publish while branding changes are unsaved. Open **Settings**, select **Branding**, and click **Save**, then try **Publish** again.

> **Why does the shared link still show the old image?**
>
> First check that you saved the intended thumbnail and published the app. Social sites may keep an older preview after publishing. Check the app link with the preview test linked from Zite’s branding settings, then try sharing it again later if the social site still shows the old image.
