Move your Airtable base into Zite when you want your data and apps to live in one workspace. Zite imports the base into a Zite Database and can help recreate the Airtable interfaces your team already uses.

The [migration hub](https://app.zite.com/migrate) is the main starting point. [app.zite.com/migrate/airtable](https://app.zite.com/migrate/airtable) still opens the Airtable flow inside the hub.

<Note>
  A migration creates a new copy of your data in Zite. Changes made in Airtable after the migration do not automatically appear in the Zite Database.
</Note>

## Before you start

Make sure you have:

* Access to the Airtable account and base you want to migrate
* Permission to share your screen if you want Zite to recreate an Airtable interface
* A working microphone so you can explain how your interface is used

If Zite asks you to reconnect Airtable, reconnect the account before continuing. This gives Zite current access to the base and its structure.

## Migrate an Airtable base

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Airtable migrator">
    Sign in to Zite, then open the [migration hub](https://app.zite.com/migrate) and choose **Airtable**. You can also go to [app.zite.com/migrate/airtable](https://app.zite.com/migrate/airtable), or from Home select `New`, then `Migrate`.

    On the first screen, **Watch video** plays a short walkthrough of how the import works.

    To add a base to a workspace you already use, open that workspace's Integrations area. Click **Move to Zite Database** next to a connected Airtable account, or **Import to Zite Database** at the top of that account's **⋯** menu. See [Import data](/help/database/getting-started/import-data).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect Airtable">
    Select `Connect Airtable`, then authorize Zite to access the Airtable account that contains your base.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a base">
    Select the Airtable base you want to move.

    </Frame>

    Some Airtable content may have import exceptions. Zite highlights these so you can see what needs review before starting the migration.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up rollup fields">
    If the base has rollup fields, Zite opens a Setup step. Airtable doesn't share how each rollup is calculated, so you can paste the Airtable rollup formula or describe in plain words what the field should calculate—for example, "average of the ratings."

    Zite then creates a live rollup field in the Zite Database that keeps calculating, and keeps the original Airtable values as the starting values. If you skip this step, or a formula can't be used, that rollup is imported as fixed values instead. The migration still completes.

    If a base has nothing to set up, Setup continues straight to the preview. Review the tables, fields, and sample records there before starting the migration. The preview shows which rollups will stay live and which will be imported as fixed values.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Import the data">
    Start the migration. You can close the tab. The import keeps going in the background.

    Zite first creates the workspace with an empty database, then copies records. You can open the workspace and use chat and apps while records still arrive. See [Import in the background](#import-in-the-background) for progress, resume, and what to do if the import stops.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Recreate your Airtable interfaces">
    If your base uses Airtable interfaces, pick **Airtable Interfaces** in the [migration hub](/help/platform/migrate-from/overview). You can also continue from a **Migrate more** card after the base import. Allow screen and microphone access, then record a short walkthrough of the interface.

    </Frame>

    Explain what each page is for, who uses it, and the actions people need to take. Zite uses the recording, narration, and key screens to create a plan for a new Zite app.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the new workspace">
    Open the new Zite workspace and check the imported tables, records, linked fields, formulas, rollups, attachments, and views. Then test any migrated forms or generated apps before sharing them with your team.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What Zite migrates

Zite imports supported Airtable content into a Zite Database, including:

* Tables, fields, and select options
* Records and supported attachments
* Relationships between supported tables and fields
* Supported forms and connections that use the Airtable base
* Rollup fields as live calculations when you complete Setup, or as fixed values if you skip it

Common Airtable formulas carry over to Zite formula fields.

For Airtable interfaces, Zite creates a new app from your recorded walkthrough rather than copying the interface pixel for pixel. You can update the generated app in the Zite editor after migration. Airtable Interfaces is its own choice in the [migration hub](/help/platform/migrate-from/overview), not only a step after the base import.

## Import in the background

After you start an Airtable import into a new workspace, you can close the tab. Zite keeps copying records. Adding a base to a workspace you already use also runs in the background and can be resumed. See [Import data](/help/database/getting-started/import-data).

You can open the workspace as soon as it exists and use chat and apps while the import continues. Progress shows in three places:

* The import screen
* The workspace home migration card labeled **Import in progress**
* A pinned notice on other pages

If the import stops, editors see:

* **Resume** when the import can continue
* **Reconnect Airtable** when access to the base was lost

To end an import for good, click **X** on the workspace home card, then confirm. If the import is still copying, the confirmation warns that large bases can take an hour or more, and offers **Keep importing**.

Partial data stays in the workspace if you stop. Restoring a [backup](/help/database/manage-data/backup-and-restore) waits until a stopped import is resumed or ended. Backups and restores can't start while an import is in progress.

When the import finishes, the welcome or details view can list anything that did not come across, such as records over the import limit or files that failed. Some files may be too large to copy automatically. You can upload those by hand after the import.

## After the migration

Before switching your team to Zite:

* Compare a sample of records in Airtable and Zite
* Check formulas, rollups, linked records, select options, and attachment fields
* Review any migration warnings for unsupported or unmapped fields
* Test forms, apps, permissions, and workflows that use the migrated data
* Invite teammates and publish the new apps when everything is ready

A **Migrate more** card may suggest a next step, such as recreating **Airtable Interfaces**.

Keep the Airtable base available until you have confirmed that the new Zite workspace contains the data and tools your team needs.

Bases migrated before live rollups were available don't update in place. Migrate the base again if you want those rollups to keep calculating.
