How it works

Amazon S3 stores files in containers called buckets. Connect a bucket to build document portals and upload tools in Zite. App visitors use the storage connection you configure and do not need their own Amazon accounts. With this integration, you can:
  • Upload files to the connected bucket
  • List files in a chosen folder
  • Provide temporary download links
  • Check whether a file exists
  • Delete files when the connection allows it

How to integrate Amazon S3 into your app

1

Connect to Amazon S3

Ask Zite to connect Amazon S3, or click + in the chat box, select Integrations, then choose Amazon S3. Enter Bucket, Region, Access key ID, and Secret access key, using details from your AWS administrator. Optionally set Path prefix for a folder; leave Custom endpoint empty for Amazon S3. Select Connect.
2

Describe your use case

Tell Zite which files the app should collect or show, and who can access them. For example, “Store job photos in our inspections folder and let managers download photos for their assigned jobs.”
3

Test and publish

Upload a sample file, find it in the bucket, and try downloading it. Test on the published app address and any custom domain you use.Click Publish in the upper right corner when the workflow works as expected.

Common use cases

With Amazon S3, you can create apps like:
  • Invoice Archives: Store and download invoices.
  • Client File Portals: Share the files intended for each client.
  • Inspection Systems: Collect photos from field teams.
  • Report Libraries: Store reports for authorized staff to download.

Important notes

  • One bucket: Each connection uses one bucket. Use another connection if you need a second bucket.
  • Storage permissions: Ask your AWS administrator for a dedicated key limited to the required bucket, folder, and actions. A path prefix alone does not enforce access restrictions.
  • Browser access: Direct uploads and downloads need the bucket to allow your app’s web address. If they fail after adding a custom domain, ask your administrator to allow that address too.
  • Expiring links: Temporary download links expire. Ask Zite to create a fresh link when someone opens a file.
  • Connection checks: Saving the connection does not test the keys against the bucket. Test a real upload and download before sharing the app.
  • Encryption: If your bucket uses a separate encryption key, the connection also needs permission to use it.
