How it works
OpenAI provides AI models for text, images, and audio. Connect OpenAI to add features such as a support assistant or meeting transcription to your Zite app. App visitors don’t need their own OpenAI accounts; your app uses the connection you set up. By connecting OpenAI, you can:- Draft replies, descriptions, and summaries from information users provide
- Add a chat assistant that shows answers as they’re written
- Extract details or categories from text for your app to use
- Generate images from written descriptions
- Transcribe recorded audio into text
- Build search that finds related content by meaning
How to integrate OpenAI into your app

Connect to OpenAI
Ask Zite to connect your app to OpenAI. Alternatively, select + in the chat box, then Integrations → OpenAI.Choose Use Zite’s Account on a paid Zite plan, or Custom API Key to enter a key from your OpenAI account. If you’ve connected before, choose a saved account or Connect new account.

Describe your use case
Tell Zite what users will provide and what the AI should return. For example, “Add a support assistant that drafts a reply from the customer’s message and our refund guidelines.”Specify the information it should use, the tone, and whether a person should review the result before it’s saved or sent.

Test and publish
Test several realistic examples and check the answers, including missing or unclear inputs. Ask Zite to refine the instructions where needed.Select Publish in the upper-right corner when the feature works as expected.
Common use cases
With an OpenAI connection, you can create apps like:- Support Assistants: Draft customer replies for the team to review
- Feedback Analyzers: Summarize responses and group them into themes
- Request Sorters: Suggest a category and priority for incoming requests
- Meeting Note Tools: Transcribe recordings and extract action items
- Image Creators: Generate images from a brief for review
Important notes
- AI inside your app: This connection powers features your users interact with. The model used to build your app is chosen separately in Model Selection.
- Zite’s account: Requires a paid Zite plan and is billed by usage. Overage charges may apply.
- Your own key: Usage is billed to your OpenAI account and follows its limits. Check that account’s billing and available usage if requests stop working.
- Shared connection: Activity from all app visitors uses the connection you chose.
- Model compatibility: Change the model in the integration settings or ask Zite. Some models don’t support every feature; review any compatibility warning and test again after switching.
