How it works

Databricks is a cloud warehouse for your organization’s data. Connect Databricks to your Zite app to turn that data into dashboards, charts, tables, and filters. App visitors don’t need their own Databricks accounts; your app uses the account you connect. By connecting Databricks, you can:
  • Show warehouse data in charts, tables, and dashboards
  • Filter and search data in the SQL warehouse you connect
  • Summarize trends and key metrics over time
  • Break down data by date, region, or other categories
  • Let Zite look up the tables available to your connection

How to integrate Databricks into your app

You need permission to edit the Zite app and a Databricks service principal (a dedicated account for apps) with permission to use the SQL warehouse and read the data you want to show. Have its client ID and secret, your workspace host, and your SQL warehouse ID ready before connecting. Ask the person who manages Databricks for these details if needed.
1

Connect to Databricks

Ask Zite to connect your app to Databricks in the chat box. Alternatively, click + in the chat box, select Integrations, then choose Databricks.Enter your Workspace host, SQL warehouse ID, Client ID, and Client secret, then click Connect. Zite checks the credentials before saving the connection.
2

Describe your use case

Tell Zite how you want to use Databricks in your app. For example, “Build a dashboard of daily sign-ups for the last 90 days” or “Show a searchable table of orders with filters for region and date.”Zite can look up the tables available to your connection. Tell it which data to use and what your app should display.
3

Test and publish

Load a table with records you recognize and compare the values and totals with Databricks. Change a date or region filter and confirm that the results match. Check that an app visitor sees only the data intended for them.Click Publish in the upper right corner to deploy your changes and make the Databricks integration available in your live app.

Common use cases

With a Databricks connection, you can create apps like:
  • Analytics Dashboards: Turn warehouse data into charts, key metrics, and reports
  • Reporting Tools: Summarize and break down data by date, location, or other categories
  • Data Explorers: Let your team search, filter, and browse warehouse tables
  • Activity Trackers: Show trends in events, usage, or sign-ups over time
  • Customer Reports: Share specific metrics with clients in a portal

Important notes

  • Shared account access: Your app reads data using the service principal you connect. Choose its permissions and who can use your app with that shared access in mind.
  • One SQL warehouse: Each connection uses the warehouse ID you paste when you connect. Zite does not show a list of warehouses to choose from. You can change the warehouse ID by editing the existing connection in organization settings; this affects apps using that connection.
  • Databricks cloud host: The workspace host must be a standard Databricks cloud address. Custom or internal addresses are rejected. You can paste a full web address; Zite keeps just the host.
  • Connection checks: Zite checks the credentials when you connect or edit. Saving a connection does not confirm access to the warehouse or its tables; test that your app can load the data before publishing.
  • Read warehouse data: Your app looks up data in the connected SQL warehouse for dashboards, charts, tables, and filters.
  • Large results: If a lookup returns too much data at once, Zite stops rather than showing incomplete totals. Ask Zite to filter or summarize the data.
