How it works
ClickUp is a tool for tracking work and managing projects. Connect ClickUp to your Zite app to find, create, and update tasks, and add comments. App visitors don’t need to connect their own ClickUp accounts—your app uses the account you connect. By connecting ClickUp, you can:- Find Spaces, Folders, and Lists, then work with the tasks in a List
- Read tasks, including closed tasks and subtasks when you ask
- Search tasks across Lists by assignee, status, or recent updates
- Create tasks with a name, description, status, priority, assignees, due date, and custom fields
- Update a task’s status, assignees, and custom fields
- Add comments to tasks
How to integrate ClickUp into your app
You need edit access to the Zite app to connect from its chat box. Your app uses the connected ClickUp account and can work with the information that account can access in the Workspaces you select.1
Connect to ClickUp
Ask Zite to connect your app to ClickUp in the chat box. Alternatively, click + in the chat box, select Integrations, then choose ClickUp.Sign in to your ClickUp account, select the ClickUp Workspaces you want to use, and approve the requested access.
2
Describe your use case
Tell Zite how you want to use ClickUp in your app. For example, “Show open tasks from our Marketing list” or “Let the team create tasks with a due date and assignee.”Zite can look up the Spaces, Folders, and Lists available to your connection. Tell it which List you want to use and what information your app should show or collect.
3
Test and publish
Check that your app shows tasks from the List you selected. If your app creates or updates tasks, try it with a sample task, then open ClickUp and check the task’s details. These tests change real ClickUp data, so use a task you have set aside for testing.Click
Publish in the upper right corner to deploy your changes and make the ClickUp integration available in your live app.Common use cases
With a ClickUp connection, you can create apps like:- Task Dashboards: Display and filter tasks from a List, including by assignee or status
- Task Intake: Let people create ClickUp tasks from your app, with a name, description, due date, and assignees
- Status Updaters: Let the team change a task’s status or assignees without opening ClickUp
- Work Trackers: Show open tasks, closed tasks, and subtasks from the Lists you name
- Comment Tools: Add comments to tasks from your app
Important notes
- Workspace access: When you connect, you choose which ClickUp Workspaces Zite can reach. Only those Workspaces are available. If ClickUp denies access, that Workspace wasn’t selected or access was revoked. Reconnect to fix it.
- Name the List: ClickUp organizes work as Workspace, then Space, then an optional Folder, then List, then Task. Zite finds Spaces, Folders, and Lists, then works with the tasks in a List. Tell Zite which List to use.
- Statuses and custom fields: Each List has its own statuses and custom fields. One List may use “Done” and another “complete”. Zite reads the List’s statuses and fields before writing. Marking a task done uses that List’s own closed or done status.
- Account permissions: Your app can only perform actions the connected ClickUp account is allowed to perform. Check that account’s access if it cannot view or update a task.
- Busy updates: ClickUp limits how quickly your app can change many tasks at once, so large updates can be slow.
