How it works
Clay helps sales teams research people and companies and add information to their records. Connect Clay to your Zite app to search for contacts and companies or run an existing Clay routine, a saved process that gathers or updates information. App visitors don’t need their own Clay accounts; your app uses the account you connect. By connecting Clay, you can:- Find people by details such as job title and location
- Find companies by details such as industry and company size
- Run existing Clay enrichment routines with information collected in your app
- Display routine results when the work finishes
- Read rows from Clay tables on a Clay Enterprise plan
How to integrate Clay into your app
1
Connect to Clay
You need permission to edit the app and a Clay account with an API key, which lets Zite access that account. Ask Zite to connect your app to Clay, or click + in the chat box, select Integrations, then choose Clay.Open the link in the connection dialog to find your key in Clay’s API & CLI settings. Enter it in API Key, then select Connect.
2
Describe your use case
Tell Zite what you want to find or enrich, for example, “Find operations managers in London and show their names, companies, and profile links.” For an existing routine, provide its routine ID from Clay and the information it expects, such as a company domain. If you are using a Clay workflow, enable it for API & CLI in Clay first. Ask Zite to show when the routine is still running and display the results when they are ready.
3
Test and publish
Run a small search and check that the results match your filters. If you use a routine, test it with one example and compare the completed result with Clay; the test uses your Clay allowance.Check that visitors can see only the information and actions intended for them. Click Publish in the upper right corner when the app works as expected.
Common use cases
With a Clay connection, you can create apps like:- Prospect Finders: Search for people by role and location and review their company and profile details
- Company Research Tools: Find companies by industry and size for your team to evaluate
- Account Qualification Forms: Send a company domain to an existing Clay routine and show the returned information
- Enrichment Review Tools: Let your team review the results of a Clay routine before using them in other work
Important notes
- Account access: Connect your own Clay API key. Your app uses that account’s access and allowance, so choose who can use the app with that in mind.
- Clay usage: Searches have a monthly results allowance, and routine runs spend Clay credits. These limits are separate from Zite’s AI credits; loading more search results also uses the search allowance.
- Plan requirements: Searches that combine people and company filters require a paid Clay plan. Reading Clay table rows requires Clay Enterprise.
- Existing routines: Set up the routine in Clay first and give Zite its ID and expected inputs. Zite cannot list your routines for you, and a workflow must be enabled for API & CLI before it can run from your app.
- Waiting for results: Routines can take seconds to minutes. A result that is still running is not a failed run; let it finish before starting another.
- Contact details: People search returns profile and employment information, not email addresses. Any additional information depends on the enrichment routine you run.
