How it works
LinkedIn is a professional network. Connect LinkedIn to your Zite app to publish posts to your member feed, read the connected profile, and delete posts. App visitors don’t need to connect their own LinkedIn accounts—your app uses the member you connect. You connect with Zite’s LinkedIn app. You don’t create a LinkedIn developer app or paste a client ID and secret. By connecting LinkedIn, you can:- Publish text posts to the connected member’s feed
- Publish article/link posts with a title and description you provide
- Publish image posts
- Read the connected member’s basic profile details, such as name, email address, and profile picture
- Delete posts published by the connected member
How to integrate LinkedIn into your app
1
Connect to LinkedIn
Ask Zite to connect your app to LinkedIn in the chat box. Alternatively, click + in the chat box, select Integrations, then choose LinkedIn.Sign in to your LinkedIn account and approve access. Keep the OpenID and Profile permissions enabled; Zite needs them to identify the member who will author posts. After you connect, your app can read your basic profile details and publish posts to your feed.LinkedIn connections expire after 60 days. Reconnect from the same Integrations view when that happens.
2
Describe your use case
Tell Zite how you want to use LinkedIn in your app. For example, “Publish a text post to my LinkedIn feed” or “Share an article link with a title and description I provide.”
3
Test and publish
Test the LinkedIn features in your app to make sure everything works as expected.Click
Publish in the upper right corner to deploy your changes and make the LinkedIn integration available in your live app.Common use cases
With a LinkedIn connection, you can create apps like:- Feed publishers: Post text updates from your app to the connected member’s LinkedIn feed
- Article sharers: Publish a link with a title and description you set
- Image posts: Share images to the connected member’s feed
- Profile-aware apps: Read the connected member’s profile and use it in your app
- Post cleanup: Delete posts your app published
Important notes
- Zite’s LinkedIn app: You connect by signing in to LinkedIn and approving access. You don’t bring your own LinkedIn developer app or client credentials.
- Member feed only: Posts go to the connected member’s personal feed. Company and organization pages are not supported.
- What this connection does not do: Your app cannot read the member’s existing posts, add comments or likes, manage connections, send messages, or receive LinkedIn webhooks.
- Article/link posts: Provide the title and description for posts created through this integration. The publishing API does not automatically generate the link card from the URL.
- Post text length: Post text is limited to 3,000 characters.
- Connection expiry: LinkedIn access lasts about 60 days and does not refresh automatically. When the connection expires or LinkedIn reports that it is unauthorized, reconnect the integration.
- Usage limits: If LinkedIn temporarily limits requests, wait before trying again.
