How it works
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet tool for organizing data and calculations. Upload a file to use its data as the starting point for a Zite business system. This is a one-time import, so app users don’t need an Excel account and changes to the original file don’t sync with Zite. By importing an Excel file, you can:- Bring spreadsheet rows and columns into a Zite database
- Build searchable lists and filtered views of your data
- Let your team add and update records through an app
- Create dashboards based on the imported data
How to integrate Microsoft Excel into your app

Connect to Microsoft Excel
Open Spreadsheet to app and upload an .xlsx or .csv file. Use clear column headings in the first row.For an existing workspace, follow Import data instead. You upload a file rather than sign in to Microsoft.

Describe your use case
Tell Zite how people should use the data. For example, “Turn this equipment list into an inventory system where staff can search items, update quantities, and flag repairs.”If your spreadsheet uses formulas or macros, explain the calculations and actions you need Zite to recreate.

Test and publish
Check the imported records, dates, and numbers, then test adding and editing a record. Compare any recreated calculations with known results from your spreadsheet.Click Publish in the upper right corner when the system works as expected.
Common use cases
With imported Excel data, you can create apps like:- Inventory Systems: Track stock, equipment, and repair requests.
- Customer Directories: Search contacts and update customer details.
- Project Trackers: Manage tasks, owners, and deadlines together.
- Operations Dashboards: Summarize orders, costs, or team activity.
Important notes
- File formats: Spreadsheet to app accepts .xlsx and .csv files. Save older Excel files as .xlsx before uploading.
- No ongoing sync: Editing your original workbook does not update Zite, and changes in Zite do not update the workbook.
- Calculations: Importing reads cell values. Formulas and macros don’t automatically become working app logic; describe the rules, then test what Zite builds.
- Import checks: Review column headings, field types, and sample records before relying on the imported data.
