Turn a business process into an app, using your existing data or starting from scratch.
Start with one task your team or customers need to complete, such as tracking jobs, reviewing requests, or checking project progress. Describe it to Zite, try the first version, and refine it before sharing. For a complete example to follow, use the Quickstart.
Choose whether the app belongs in a new workspace or one you already use. To build in an existing workspace, you need editing access.
A new business system: Open Home and describe your app in the main chat box. Zite creates a workspace with its own database when you start. From inside a workspace, open its name in the sidebar and select All workspaces to return home.
Another app for an existing system: Open that workspace and select + beside Apps in the sidebar. The What do you want to build? page creates the app in this workspace, where it can use the existing data.
You can also select New → App on the workspace’s Overview.

Describe the first version
As you type on Home, Zite can suggest details to add to your request. Select a suggestion to add it, then review the wording before sending.Include four things:
Who: The team or customers who will use it.
What: The main task they need to complete.
Data: What to track, and where that information lives.
Access: Who can view or change which information.
For example:
Build an internal job tracker for our operations team. Track jobs, customers, owners, due dates, and status. Let staff update their assigned jobs and managers see all jobs. Start with sample data.
The new-app composer inside an existing workspace.

Plan, then build
Turn on Plan first if the idea needs discussion or has several parts. Zite asks questions and drafts a plan for you to review before building. For a small, clear request, leave it off. Select Build it or the send arrow shown beside your request, then answer any questions Zite asks.Learn more about Agent Modes.
The Your app is ready checklist offers four next steps. Choose the ones your app needs:
Next step
What it opens
Publish your app
Publishing options so you can share the app. Review who can access it before publishing.
Try your app
A way to test the app as a user. For an app with login, choose a user to preview. An app without login needs to be published before you can open its shared version.
Connect an integration
Connections to tools your app needs, such as Google Sheets or Slack.
Import your data
The workspace database, where you can add your existing data.
Close the checklist with X when you don’t need it. To reopen it, select + → Next steps in the chat box. See Test before you share for checks to make before giving people access.
You can start with sample data or use information you already have. Import and integration options are under + in the chat box:
Your starting point
What to choose
No data yet
Ask for sample records in Zite Database so you can test the first version.
A CSV or Excel spreadsheet
Import → Build from spreadsheet, then describe how people should use that information.
Data you want to move into Zite
Import, then choose Airtable, Google Sheets, Import CSV, or Import Excel. Follow the import steps.
Data that should stay in another tool
Integrations, then connect the service. Tell Zite which data to use and what the app should do with it.
Use + to add files, connect integrations, or open the import options.
You can keep your data in Airtable or Google Sheets. The workspace includes a Zite Database, but using it is optional. See Integrations for supported connections.
Use the theme selector beside + to choose a theme or an existing Brand Kit. You can also use + → Upload file to attach a screenshot or mockup and explain which details to follow.
Try the main task: Add a sample job, assign it, and change its status.
Check the data: Refresh the app and confirm your changes are saved in the right place.
Check access: Test what a staff member and a manager can each see and change. A request in the prompt is not a substitute for checking the result.
Refine and publish: Describe anything that needs fixing. When ready, review app access and select Publish.
Build the main task first. Add extras such as notifications, reports, and integrations once it works. See Credit Efficiency for more ways to keep requests focused.
